Retreat and Renewal Center Description Perfectly suited for FAMILY REUNIONS • YOUTH GROUPS • MEDITATION/YOGA GROUPS RETREATS • ALL RELIGIONS, ALL AGES, ALL BELIEFS WELCOME • PROPERTY MAP Historic roots and a peaceful atmosphere, adjacent to part of the Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Preserve. Located near Barnegat Bay, Murray Grove is about 90 minutes' drive south of New York City and about the same distance east of Philadelphia. Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center comprises twenty lovely partially-wooded acres. It borders a 200-acre wildlife preserve with nature trails leading through woods to the wetlands on Barnegat Bay. We're open all year. Meeting and Dining The center of activity is the Lodge. The Fireside Room is filled with comfortable furniture for get-togethers and meetings, with a large fireplace and cozy lounging area. The Dining Room is perfect for both meetings and meals, with ample seating room for up to 60+. There's a fully-equipped, restaurant-grade kitchen for your own food preparation; and we can recommend a range of restaurants and caterers who can provide meals to fit many dietary preferences and budgets. The Lodge is air-conditioned. Our Office is at the west end of the Lodge. Our Screen House, situated near our swimming pool, is suitable for comfortable outdoor meeting and dining from spring through autumn; and we have barbecue grills open air cooking. The detached Cone House cabin affords further meeting space for smaller groups and a game room with ping-pong table and board games. Contact Murray Grove staff for local restaurant recommendations. Lodging We have two guest houses: Weakley House, with eleven attractively decorated bedrooms for two (twenty comfortable twin beds and one queen), and large shared bathrooms with 3 toilet stalls, 3 sinks and 3 showers in both men's and women' rooms; and Friedrich House, with ten rooms accommodating two beds each (8 of which are expandable to 3 beds at an additional cost of $15 per bed), living room and shared bathrooms that include 2 sinks and 2 toilet stalls and one shower in both men's and women's rooms. A linen roll including a bath towel, wash cloth, fitted sheet, top sheet and pillow case is provided for each guest, at no extra cost. Guests need to supply their own toiletries, including soap and shampoo. All bedrooms have fans (no air-conditioning.) Together with the Lodge and the woods, the Friedrich and Weakley Houses frame a grassy courtyard equipped with outdoor furniture and a fire pit. This is a popular space for relaxation or meetings. Campfires are popular year-round, but are occasionally forbidden due to local fire hazard conditions. Grounds Besides lodging and meeting space for up to 50 people, we have a 20-acre wooded campus, an outdoor in-ground salt-water pool, an eleven-circuit labyrinth, screen house, large athletic field, play structure, walking trails in a wildlife preserve immediately adjacent – and a history of over 240 years. We are easy to get to – 15 minutes south of Toms River near Barnegat Bay. We also have beach badges for the use of our guests to visit the four Lacey Township Beaches. Our property includes the Universalist National Cemetery, and next door to that, in the old Good Luck Cemetery, is the Potter Memorial Chapel, on the site of the original meetinghouse built by Thomas Potter in the mid-eighteenth century. (See Heritage). It is available for worship services in season, for a $25 donation to the Good Luck Improvement Association, who own and maintain it. Please note that it has no heat or electricity. The 39-foot, eleven-circuit labyrinth, made of river cobbles, is set into the turf in front of the Memorial Boulder near the site of the original Red Brick Church. Murray Grove is a peaceful place that allows guests to disconnect from the concerns of their everyday lives and concentrate fully on what brings them here.
