Make A Day of It

Homecoming was created so that Unitarian Universalists from all over the Mid-Atlantic region (and beyond) could come together and celebrate. At the heart of the day are the roots from which our Universalism has evolved. Held each year on the last Saturday of September, this annual celebration emerges out of twin foundations: Murray's serendipitous meeting with Thomas Potter; and that day in 1770 when John Murray preached his first sermon on American soil.

This year's theme is Universalism: A Saving Faith. A "Saving Faith" is how the Rev. Dr. Forrest Church of All Souls in New York defines universalism. It felt exactly right to build our day around his definition.

Beginning with an Opening Ceremony at 10 a.m. and going through to a UU tent revival at 3 p.m., the day will weave a tapestry that will express itself fully at the revival. Rev. Church; Rev. Harry C. Green, Metro New York District Consultant; Thomas Potter; John Murray; Nick Page, master song leader and composer; and Robin Becker, dancer and choreographer will provide us with inspiration and much to think about. You can look forward to some real connection with folks from the larger UU denomination, plenty of beautiful music, good food (either reserve a lunch or bring your own) and a broadening of your vision of Universalism and its value in the world.

At Murray Grove, our mission is to cultivate a sacred space so that all people who come will experience the liberating power of universal love.
